SilentPrint and Geographically Remote Printers

SilentPrint is designed to be an "on-site" product where tasks are configured to reference printers on the same LAN as the SilentPrint installation. The product is not intended for use where the SilentPrint installation and target device(s) are in geographically different locations and communications are carried over a WAN.

As print requests are fed in to a print device's queue SilentPrint needs to monitor the progress of each job in order to confirm successful completion. This then enables the software to act upon what the user has requested of the software after each successful print e.g. move the file to the Recycler, store the file or delete it completely. This process involves a lot of communications traffic between SilentPrint and the target device and WAN links are not suited to the speed at which these must be transmitted.

It is more efficient to have an installation of SilentPrint at each location where a target device resides. This means that the WAN link will only have to carry the source data as it is copied to the remote watched folders. All SilentPrint processing and communications will then be carried out locally to the target device with no need to send traffic back and forth across the WAN link.
